MS 2: Electricity – Autonomous work

 

MS 2 has started their new science unit last week. We will look at:

·     what electricity is,

·     the dangers and uses of electricity,

·     how electricity is generated,

·     series and parallel circuits and discuss their advantages and disadvantages,

·     electricity and its uses in machines, motors and alarm systems

·     electricity and magnetism.

MS 2 LP’s are expected to write a research essay based on electricity and magnetism. The topic for the research essay will be chosen by the LP’s and could be a theoretical essay,  practical investigation report or a report about a  electrical model you have builtIf you choose a practical investigation or a model you need to write it up using the scientific method. Please discuss your experiment with me so that I can check to see if it meets safety requirements. 

Things to remember when doing your research essay:

• mind map your ideas,
• plan your time well,
• choose a title, guiding question and area of focus,
• do research using research cards,
• write a first draft,
• and speak to your mentor and coach often to test your ideas.
